Happy Hallowe’en!

Well, it is an appropriately gloomy/spooky day here in Montreal. It has been grey, windy and raining all day, and I can see flurries of leaves streak by the window every so often. Perfect Hallowe’en weather.

I had no intention of carving a pumpkin this year, but we had this pumpkin that sat on the table for ages, and I noticed yesterday that it had started to turn bad. Since I couldn’t consider eating it anymore, carving it into a jack-o-lantern seemed like the next best way to make use of it. So, there it is–I’ve turned out to be much more festive than I had intended to be.

The funny thing about this little pumpkin was that it is essentially a spaghetti squash inside–instead of the solid pumpkin flesh I’d expected, this one peels off into little strands.

The more I tried to scrape the strings out, the stringier it got. It’s actually pretty neat looking inside. Does anyone know if pumpkins are being bred this way to make them easier to hollow out? That was one thing I thought of when I noticed this. C was the one that got this pumpkin at the market, so I don’t know how it was labeled.

Do you have any particular plans for Hallowe’en? Or favorite treats? I’m planning to have some sujeonggwa this afternoon, and maybe pumpkin pancakes for breakfast tomorrow.

Have a spooky weekend!

love,
